Hi8 is a higher quality version of 8mm. The tapes are the same size and shape as 8mm tapes, and they can be used interchangeably in some cases. The difference is that metal evaporated tape is used, which allows it to record more resolution. Hi8 is the highest quality consumer analog tape available
@jrmcferren Yes windows 7 gives me problems with Pinnicle, in fact Win 7 does not have firewire or even acept a Dazzle analog DV-80 converter.
I have to do all this in Win XP that move the file over to my Win 7 computer to edit it.
I know what you mean by having to use “their” editing program. I have a pinnacle DVD transfer kit and the only two programs that work with the capture unit are the two that came with it. The problem is actually windows 7 not the hardware or software.
Your movies didn’t bore me in the least. Watching the men play horseshoes was a frequent thing at backyard gatherings at my Grandparents house:) We had some old home movies, but with the passage of time, they are gone. I’m happy to see people posting their home movies on here:)
Hi 111111, Yes you can as long as your computer has Win XP, Vista, I don’t know about Win 7 though.
You also must have a capture program like Pinnicle Studeo or ULead.

Hi. Im from colombia, i wanna to convert a group of tapes in a digital format, but my pc and laptop don’t have a card that import video …with this device that you bought i can do it???
i will be really greatful with you for your answer…sorry for my english but i’m only speak spanish. I´ll do my best..Thanks a lot
@JeffN727 Hi JeffN727, If you get it make sure you install the Ulead Videostudeo SE DVD program ther include.
Because that program will alow you to set the dongle to NTSC, it is set to PAL format and my Pinnacle Studeo V.12 will not get it out of the PAL format.
That is why it stopped working.
Bill
