Hi8 is a higher quality version of 8mm. The tapes are the same size and shape as 8mm tapes, and they can be used interchangeably in some cases. The difference is that metal evaporated tape is used, which allows it to record more resolution. Hi8 is the highest quality consumer analog tape available

The DCR-TRV350 was one of Sony’s most full-featured Digital8 camcorders, with a Memory Stick Pro slot, live streaming video capture from S-video/composite inputs to FireWire, analog Hi8/Video8 playback, and more — but there’s one drawback, which is why I didn’t keep it (and actually made about a profit on reselling it!).

Hitachi was the only other company besides Sony to make Digital8 camcorders, and they are very hard to find. This is the model VM-D965LA from the year 2000. It has some nice features and has fairly good video quality, but suffers from loud tape motor noise, and the image gets rather grainy in low light. Also the “16:9″ mode is not true widescreen; it just puts black bars on the top and bottom of the 4:3 image. Video Rating: 5 / 5

dudeletsgoskate.com dudeletsgoskate.com dudeletsgoskate.com dudeletsgoskate.com dudeletsgoskate.com Looking to see how youtube compresses HD footage. Both cameras shooting 720p @ 60 fps. The Conclusion: Both fisheyes are good. The HMC is awesome in low light, it actually looks bright in chenga2, but the hmc exii isnt as wide as the 8mm fisheye on the 7D. The 7D needs alot of light to have really nice colors and indoor skate parks dont really provide that. The Audio on the 7D is terrible, its the stock mic. My next investment is audio for the 7D.

Presenting the Sony DCR-TRV103 Digital8 camcorder from 1999. This was the first in a series of camcorders from Sony which attempted to bridge the gap between analog and digital formats by recording DV-spec digital video onto standard Hi8 video tapes, and also offering playback of analog Video8 and Hi8 tapes, so you could still play your old analog tapes in your new digital camcorder (although it cannot record in analog). This model has outstanding low light sensitivity and has performed flawlessly for me, despite being a decade old. Even the original Sony battery still holds a charge very well. Unfortunately, Sony basically defeated the purpose of the Digital8 format by continuing to offer both analog Video8/Hi8 and digital MiniDV camcorders alongside their Digital8 camcorders for the entire time they were in production (1999-2006). The only other company which ever sold any Digital8 camcorders was Hitachi. Also, the larger size of the 8mm tapes prevented these models from ever becoming as small and light as MiniDV camcorders. Nonetheless, these Digital8 camcorders still have a following and they fetch a good resale value on sites such as eBay. Video Rating: 4 / 5
